Dean Amos – Engineer / Producer


Dean Amos is the Owner of Sugar Rays Vintage Recording Studio.Dean apart from running and building the studio, also engineers sessions for bands. Dean has been playing upright bass, bass guitar and rhythm guitar for well over 30 years in many roots music bands, and over that time recorded over 20 albums with different bands, experimenting in recording and being very interested in the recording history side of things with a great understanding in how the music should sound.

For a very long time Dean seemed to be always a part of a band that didn’t ever quite get ‘THAT SOUND‘ when recording in modern digital studios…and over the years and many studio albums later he decided to go Route One and build a complete working 1950s Recording Studio himself.

Dean wanted to end up with a Time Capsule: A Definitive Recording Setup from Microphone to Tape with everything else in between… and a studio was built; how such a studio would have been; with the correct Sound Proofing, Acoustic Screening, and Decor to suit, including a Chillout Green Room complete with Genuine 1950s Furniture. Dean’s attention to detail was un-compromised, and it shows in Sugar Rays.

However; Such a task was soon to be realized a huge undertaking which spanned a some 6 year period with many ups & downs along the way, mainly sourcing equipment and shipping it from the USA with endless air-miles and finding parts for the equipment of some 60-70 years of age. Also most importantly getting the right Techs to repair and setup everything to work together and work as it should do.

The End Result has been well worth it. Now Bands & Artists can record exactly as those great Pioneers of the music we love, did all those years ago, creating music with that Real, Live, fresh, Warm Timeless Sound recorded by highly talented sound engineers that totally understand and are inspired in recording this way.

Lincoln Grounds – Senior Engineer/Producer


Lincoln is a highly experienced Producer/Composer & Musician with a large back catalogue of work across several genres. A former Professional Guitarist, he has played in many venues from pubs to The Royal Albert Hall & recorded in varied environments form tiny cellars to Abbey Road studios.

Sugar Rays Vintage Recording Studios acquired Lincolns help in 2016 with the mission to re-design the studio from top to bottom in order to ensure the best possible Vintage Sounds could be consistently achieved.
This involved redesigning the Live Room, a re-organisation of the Signal Paths, assessing the capabilities of the equipment & streamlining the whole recording process. Lincoln has helped to make Sugar Rays the ‘Go To’ studio for the 1950s Sound.

Continuing the approach of Sam Philips, Lincoln is able to capture the excitement of great performances due to his understanding of microphone placement, instruments & ability to help artists be at their best in the studio.
